Keynote

I always enjoy an Apple keynote, and yesterday’s was no exception. We saw a taste of the user facing improvements to iOS, particularly with iPad multitasking, transit in Maps, big improvements to Notes (and general keyboard improvements), and lots and lots of little enhancements to Siri and Search.

OS X looks better too, with usability and window management improvements, as well as catching up improvements to Safari. Missing features in Photos are coming, and Notes and Maps get changes to match their iOS counterparts.

For a developer event though, it’s not very developer focused. The difference between the time spent discussing Swift 2 and Apple Music particularly stood out. Apple Music looks like a great app/service and I’m pleased it’s launching in the UK soon, but seems like an odd fit for the event.

Having looked through some of the changes that weren’t mentioned, there’s a lot of exciting stuff to come this week: HTTP access to CloudKit makes that a much more appealing proposition, there are many possibilities for Apple-supported deep links, and there’s a whole new standard type of view, UIStackView. I’m looking forward to learning much more about what we can build with all these little things as the week progresses.
